No matter how much time passes, Minecraft is the one game that does not truly die. The game has had consistently high sales and players have been joining from PC, Mobile and Consoles. There are only a few games which support such pure cross-play.

Every year, Minecraft brings in new updates which adds something for the player to look forward to, keeping the survival aspect of the game more alive. There have also been combat upgrades, some loved and some frowned upon, but one thing is undoubted; Mojang’s love for the game and its community.

In 2023, Minecraft is releasing version 1.20 – unlike the updates before, this one is unnamed! It will be named eventually; along with the community! The Minecraft Team wants to interact with the community to find their needs and shape 1.20 and eventually name it accordingly.

Here are some amazing features which are going to be added in Minecraft 1.20:

  • Hanging Signs: A new type of sign which adds a new type of aesthetic to the game. Earlier, signs were either standing upright from the floor or plastered on to a wall – but now you can hang it! For builds which looked slightly off because of the signs, this might be the saving grace. However, this sign is way more expensive than a normal sign, so be cautious of your resources.

  • Bamboo Update: After a really long time, Bamboos are finally getting an update! Like other wood, now Bamboo also gets a wood set; this includes Mosaics (a brand new type of block), Buttons, Doors, Fences, Fence Gates, Planks, Pressure Plate, Signs, Slabs, Stairs and Trapdoors. You can also build boats using this block, but instead of a boat, you craft a raft! These beautiful textured wood blocks will make Jungles worth all the more after the update.

  • Chiseled Bookshelves: Have you always found it weird that you couldn’t store books in the bookshelves you craft instead of stashing them in a chest dedicated to books? Chiselled Bookshelves finally solve this problem. Whether it may be empty books, books and quill or even enchanted books, you can store them all in here. It also works with redstone, which means that it is now easier to build a secret library entrance!

  • New Mob - Camels: As of 1.20, Minecraft will have Camels! Ever went exploring and lost track of your friend because you were on different horses? Well not anymore! This new mob lets two people ride one animal! In addition, this animal is quite tall so melee enemies like Zombies can’t hurt you anymore. It also has a dash abilities, which helps jump across water bodies and ravines, something that is considered horses’ worst enemy.

  • New Mob - Sniffer: Sniffer is a creature that can be found in underwater structures. You can summon it by finding a Sniffer egg and then using it on land. This new creature will sniff out ancient plant seeds from the soil.

In addition to these major changes, there are also some minor changes:

  • Vex has a new, cuter skin.
  • Creative inventory is now more organized.
  • Piglins now drop Piglin Heads if killed by a charged creeper.
  • Bundles will be added, helping carry more stuff in your inventory.

Although this article covers most of the things announced for 1.20, since this is an update revolving around the community, there are way more to come, eventually announced as it gets closer to the update.
